The Unexpected Heir
Salamon was an early emperor of the Albernecht Empire. During his time, the south of Greszynmyre was divided among many quarreling states. Salamon led his forces south from the imperial homeland to conquer the land for himself. Between brilliant strategic maneuvers, cunning political ploys, and an excellent supply chain, the Empire's foes quickly fell, their lands being absorbed into the Empire. Many of the people in the south viewed Salamon as a saviour, as their previous overlords squabbled endlessly, while the Empire brought peace and order. Salamon allowed the conquered to become full imperial citizens, further earning their love. A significant cult of personality followed him.
Alas, his rule was not to last. Rival factions in the Empire felt threatened by the power and support he had amassed, and conspired to assassinate Salamon. While several of their attempts were unsuccessful, and Salamon rooted out many of the dissidents, they eventually managed to catch him unguarded and kill the emperor. This only made Salamon into a martyr, and the south rose as one in the civil war that ensued. When the dust settled, Salamon's adopted son was raised to become emperor. He ruled fairly and competently, and though he did not match his father's achievements, began a dynasty that ruled for over a hundred years.
Over time, the hero worship of the people of southern Greszynmyre grew into a full-fledged religion. The Salamonists believe Emperor Salamon was a divine figure sent to unite the world, and that the Empire must continue this mission.
