The Unexpected Heir
The Black Dawn are a heretic sect of the Church of Asthorn. While they were prominent in their time, they were all but wiped out by the Inquisition, and now exist mainly in the Albernecht Empire and Yvethi Merchant League.
The only known followers of the Black Dawn in Carthe are those small groups found in the Imperial province. The Inquisition has not found evidence of any Black Dawn followers in the Asthornic part of the continent.
The Black Dawn was founded in Zunstaria by followers of the Prophet Zunstar. Originally, they were seen as an offshoot of the Generationalists, who were the majority sect in Zunstaria and remain so to this day. The Black Dawn based their beliefs on one of the Holy Writings of Zunstar, in which he declared that once the last Prophet was born, a black sun would rise, marking the beginning of the end of the world. As this was the first Prophet in a millennia to write about the end of times, and also due to Zunstar's extreme success in converting an entire continent to the Church, the Black Dawn believed him to be the most important Prophet since the Twenty-Seven. They declared him the twenty-eighth original Prophet, believing him to be more important and more divine than any human since the Twenty-Seven. The Church declared a Purification after being unable to reconcile with the Black Dawn, and the Inquisition viciously eliminated them. Those who escaped or were exiled settled in small communities throughout the world beyond of the reach of the Church.
